Do you ever know what coffee does to your body and to your health?
Experts say that coffee drinkers will less likely to get degenerative diseases like type II diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s, lower the risk of certain cancers, heart rhythm problems and stokes.
According to Francis Collet, MD, MPH, PhD, nutrition and epidemiology professor at the University of Minnesota, there is more good news than bad news when you consume coffee regularly.
The recent studies were made by not asking the people not drink or sip coffee just for these studies. What the researchers did was they asked them about their coffee habits. The results however did not show the cause and effect. Accordingly, coffee drinkers possibly have other advantages like better diets, more exercise and proactive genes. Hence, there have not been any solid evidence but signs of significant health benefits have been accounted.
Studies in 2009 by the World Resources Institute estimated that average American can consume about 416 8-ounce of coffee and this is very significant in the reduction on the risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes which causes the body to lose its ability to regulate the sugar “as the data on coffee and this disease are pretty solid based on more than 15 studies conducted”, a research said.
In fact in 2005, a research was conducted on coffee and type II diabetes in about 193,000 people in America and Europe. Of this population, those who consumed more than six to seven cups of coffee were 35% less likely to get type II diabetes. The results were obtained regardless of sex, age, demography and other factors.
Meanwhile, based on the very recent research conducted by a group of Australian researches in some 458,000 people, disclosed that a 7% reduction of getting type II diabetes for every additional cup of coffee daily. The same is true with consuming decaf coffee. “But this research is subject for further evaluation and validation though”, the researchers said.
Collet said that antioxidants in coffee could have been the primary factor of preventing tissue damage caused by free-radicals. “Coffee is the best source of antioxidants which help cells to regenerate”, Collet says. He further disclosed that coffee also contains minerals such as magnesium and chromium which are vital in the production of insulin that controls blood sugar.
